The Collegiate Chapter of the NAACP at North Carolina A&T State University Celebrated Its 70th Anniversary

The Collegiate Chapter of the NAACP at North Carolina A&T State University celebrated its 70th anniversary three weeks ago. The NAACP is the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization, which has impacted the lives of millions by combating racism and discrimination. The Mu Psi chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. sponsored the youth council of the NAACP on NCA&T’s campus in February 1952. Since then, this chapter has participated in the sit-in movement, held countless voter registration drives, and in 2019, successfully petitioned the local Board of Elections for an on-campus polling site after it was shut down in an act of voter suppression. The NCAT chapter of the NAACP is continuing to push the envelope by innovating new and exciting ways to get the youth involved and move this historic organization into the future. This update is relevant to future initiatives that maintain fighting voter suppression.
